NORTH ADAMS — A City Council code review committee deleted the sound-truck ordinance and revised street rules. The three-member panel, with Blackmare, Green and President Shade present, voted 3-0 to drop Chapter 20 after being told police had never used it. It voted 3-0 to change Public Works references to Public Services in Chapter 21 and to delete Section 21-28 on selling articles on sidewalks, citing the outdated "newsboys" language.
Members asked General Code and the city solicitor to rewrite Chapter 18 on purchasing, whose $5,000 contract threshold dates to 1990, and agreed to seek more advice on the sidewalk riding ban. The committee set meetings for July 16, 23 and 30 and held Chapter 24 for the commissioner's return from vacation.
